Panthers Looking Good for Next Season
Posted by: wildairraid on 2010-06-21
The Carolina Panthers are busy preparing the team to be competitive for the next season.
This started in Free Agency, where the Panthers added WR Kevin Curtis, a Speedster that will provide another excellent deep threat to the team. The Panthers plan to alternate Curtis with Brandon LaFell at the second and third WR Spot, depending on which set they come out in. This will surely cause problems for a defense, as there is no team in the NFC South that has secondary speed to match that of Smith and Curtis.
The Panthers second selection in Free Agency was Chris McCalister, who signed with the Panthers to play Safety. McCallister is getting old, but he has the build for a safety, and above average speed for a safety. Coupled with his awarness, ball-hawking, and tackling ability the Panthers have found someone to start alongside Speedman Charles Godfrey.
This leaves the Panthers looking pretty good at this point. Future plans, according to GM WildAirRaid, is to make one more upgrade at the WR Position, and find an upgrade at the MLB position.
With that said, That upgrade could come from a Jimmy Clausen Trade. WildAirRaid was not satisfied with the team's drafting of Jimmy Clausen and is willing to listen to trade offers for him. But if the trades don't come, Don't consider Clausen dead in Carolina before he takes a snap. Said WildAirRaid, "On week one, the one of our three QBs that I feel gives us the best chance to win will take the snaps."
This opens up an interesting and possibly unique among the league situation for the Panthers. A Three Way Quarterback Competition between Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen, and Tony Pike. They are very closely related in averages and ratings, and all three of their Overalls are either 80 or 81. Due to this, the QB competition could very well come down to small things like throwing motion, release times, toughness, escape ability, or whichever QB throws last at the last training camp.
Said GM WildAirRaid, "We are very fortunate to have three potential starters on our roster this year." On his Favorite?, "Pike has impressed me right now with his height and toughness he has shown, impressed me enough to make me spend training camp points on him. However, Moore and Clausen have a little more wiggle in them, which is just as important."
