Panthers win First Game Under New GM
Posted by: wildairraid on 2010-06-05

The Carolina Panthers showed promise of turning around under new GM WildAirRaid in their week 16 matchup by beating the Saints 52-14.

The Panthers jumped to an early 21-0 lead in the first quarter with scores coming from both the offense and defense.

First the Panthers scored on a 10 yard scramble for Wendell Bridges for a TD. It is interesting to note that this is Bridge's first game of the year that he had positive rushing yards or a TD in.

Next, Eric Berry took his 6th interception of the season over 60 yards to the house for the 14-0 lead. This marks Eric Berry's first career touchdown. Berry added another interception during the course of the game and recored 5 tackles to be named Madden Game MVP. Berry is an impact player on defense, using his speed and ballhawking ability to make plays on the ball wherever it is. Berry is also a 21 year old rookie, which means the NFC South will be seeing him for at least the next decade.

Then, Wendell Bridges connected on a TD pass to Steve Smith for a 21-0 lead. Under the old GM, Bridges threw twice as many Interceptions as TDs (25-13). He finished the day today with over 210 Passing Yards with 2 TDs and 1 Interception.

After that, in the second quarter, the Saints picked up their first score of the game with a perfect precision pass from Rose to Henry for a TD. Chris Gamble was unable to defend the pass at all. However, Gamble did redeem himself from this by intercepting Rose later on in the game.

Again, Business as usual for the Panthers, and they pounded the ball down the field with the Running Back Tandem of Williams and Stewart to take a comfortable 28-7 lead at the half off a beautiful play action.

After the Half, the Saints struck again with a Pass from Rose to Henry for a TD, making the game 14-28, Panthers. The Panthers then added a FG and a Stewart rushing touchdown to increase the lead to 38-14 to start the fourth quarter.

The Panthers defense shut down the desperation passing offense of the Saints and held them to no points in the fourth quarter.

The Panthers scored twice, in the fourth, First of a run by Jonathan Stewart for his second TD of the game. Stewart finished with over 100 yards.

Then Charles Godfrey picked off a Rose pass and returned for a TD for the Panthers final score of the game, giving us a final score of 52-14.

Interesting Facts:
If you normally heard "WildAirRaid" you would think it was an offense that typically was pass-happy. However, the Panthers favored the run heavily in this game and Racked up 32 rushes compared to only 23 passes.

The Panthers only amassed 8 more yards of offense than did the Saints, but the game featured a score margin that was much larger than you would expect from those numbers.
